An Afternoon with Isata Kanneh-Mason
Free opportunity for GCSE music students
An Afternoon with Isata Kanneh-Mason!
Saffron Hall are delighted to announce the newest artist in our "An Afternoon with..." series, Isata Kanneh-Mason! These events are aimed at music students styling GCSE music. This event is free but places are limited. If you are interested in bringing a class (or classes) please see the booking form below. The event will take three parts:
PLAY AND PRESENT
Listen to Isata play some of the pieces she has chosen as part of her debut solo recital at Saffron Hall, to include excerpts by Clara Schumann, Frederic Chopin, Claude Debussy. Students will be invited to "follow-along" with prepared sheet music for one of the pieces, and Isata will discuss musical features she thinks are interesting. This will be aimed at GCSE level students.
A chance to ask Isata your burning questions! Are you desperate to know what her audition process for the Royal Academy of Music was like? Maybe you want to know how she felt playing with Elton John in LA? Perhaps you'd like her to expand on a point she made about a piece she played. This Q+A/Discussion session will be open to live questions, but there will also be an opportunity to submit questions anonymously.
We are looking for two students to take part in a mini masterclass with Isata. Participating pianists should be G7+ and have a short piece prepared. The mini masterclasses will last 15-20 minutes and there will be a conversation beforehand with students and their teachers (where appropriate) about the content and feedback. If you have students who are interested please indicate on the booking form including student's name, year group, grade/level of playing and teacher contact details where appropriate.

About Isata Kanneh-Mason
Isata is a pianist who grew up in Nottingham. At 26 she is the eldest of seven siblings who are all musicians. She said that growing up her house was almost always full of music but even when it wasn’t it was still full of noise!
Isata studied at London’s Royal Academy of Music, she studied her undergraduate degree followed by a Master of Arts in Performance from which she graduated in 2020 with the Diploma of the Royal Academy of Music which is awarded for the most outstanding postgraduate final recital performance.
Since graduating Isata has embarked on a successful and increasingly busy concert career as a solo artist, with concerto appearances, solo recitals, and chamber concerts throughout the UK and abroad. She has also released two solo albums: Romance, and Summertime, and another with her brother Sheku called Muse.
