Exciting opportunity for young music and theatre lovers!
Saffron Hall is excited to be hosting English Touring Opera for a free two-day opera project in October half-term!
Participants will create a new music and theatre piece inspired by the operas of Georg Friedrich Handel. The process will include discovering the storyline of the Handel operas ETO are performing this season, learning excerpts from them, writing new music and lyrics inspired by the pieces, creating brand-new scenarios and narratives, and of course performing!
The resulting piece will last around 15 minutes. It will include one or two excerpts from the original opera, one or two pieces of brand-new material based on the opera made by participants and one solo performance from the professional opera singer. There are also opportunities for participants to take solo roles in the piece. Each of the three operas that ETO are presenting this season (Agrippina, Ottone, and Tamerlano) focus around power struggles at key points in history, so this will be the stimulus and basis for this workshop. Participants will explore moments in history or historical figures that they find interesting, and choose a moment that we can bring to life as our mini-opera, whilst bearing in mind that Handel and his librettists never let truth get in the way of a good story, so artistic license is allowed!
Participants will also be eligible for a free ticket plus a half price ticket for a guest of their choice to see ETO's Agrippina at Saffron Hall on Friday 28 October.
