Saffron Sounds: A musical journey through time with The Jess Gillam Ensemble. A Key Stage 2 Project for Chelmsford schools presented by Saffron Hall and Essex Music Education Hub

Join us for an exceptional musical learning experience including:
- A performance featuring Saxophonist Jess Gillam and her ensemble in Chelmsford Theatre on Friday 11th July 2025
- Online CPD (June 2025) supporting you to introduce the music and musicians to your students (for all participating schools), and a pre concert in school workshop (selected schools)
- Learning Resources including videos, and curriculum materials for use in the classroom
Following recent performances at Saffron Hall and Harlow Playhouse we are delighted to bring this project to Chelmsford. Featuring music taking us on a journey from the time of King Henry VIII to the present day and featuring lots of opportunities for participation Jess and her ensemble's schools concerts are designed to inspire, engage and link to the national curriculum and the work which takes place in the classroom.
Schools attending the concert will also be offered an in school workshop supporting your preparation for the concert along with CPD, and access to resources including videos, player introductions, links to curriculum and follow up activities.
Tickets for the concert in Chelmsford Theatre are priced at £3 per student (accompanying teachers go free), with CPD, workshop (if applicable) and all supporting resources included.

Jess Gillam is an outstanding Brit Award winning saxophonist whose first two albums both reached No. 1 in the UK Classical Music Charts. Jess is also a regular presenter of TV programmes including the BBC Proms and Young Musician of the Year, as well as her award winning Radio 3 show, This Classical Life.
With The Jess Gillam Ensemble she has formed a band which includes Strings, piano and percussion and performs music ranging from Bach to Bjork and Bowie, as well as specially commissioned work from some of the leading composers of today. Jess is passionate about music education and the role of music in society and enjoys working and performing alongside young musicians.
