Aurora Orchestra

Aurora Orchestra

Presented by Saffron Hall

Saffron Hall and BBC Proms audiences know it, as do an increasing number of audiences in Europe’s great concert halls: Aurora’s performances from memory are simply the best way of getting deeper inside the music.

A chance to hear Mahler’s deeply autobiographical First Symphony like never before, as Aurora dissects and reassembles the music, introducing its key elements and the story behind it before performing it entirely from memory.
‘All the floodgates within me have opened … my whole being points me towards this symphony.’ Heavily influenced by the sounds around him, from klezmer to nature, folk music to funeral marches, Mahler’s First Symphony is a true reflection of Mahler and his life in sounds. In true Aurora fashion, a dramatised first-half introduces the music and its story with mezzo-soprano Natalie Lewis, before a complete performance of the symphony from memory after the interval.
