The LSO and Chief Conductor Sir Antonio Pappano are a formidable partnership, drawing every ounce of energy, drama and nuanced beauty from a huge variety of music.

They visit Saffron Hall together for the first time. Their programme seems underpinned by heroic struggle. Beethoven sets the tone for the Romantic century ahead with vigor and nobility, but also with a wit and levity that pays its dues to the classical masters Haydn and Mozart. The result? An epic, engaging and original gem. Joy and sadness are never far from each other in Tchaikovsky’s final symphony. It may be a farewell, but it’s one with an undimmable life-force. Delicacy, delirium and despair are near-neighbours in a work containing some of his most memorable music.
