English Touring Opera - Ulysses’ Homecoming
English Touring Opera - Ulysses’ HomecomingPresented by Saffron Hall
The most tender and moving of Monteverdi’s surviving operas, Ulysses’ Homecoming explores the final chapter of Ulysses’ epic journey.
Returning home from the disastrous Trojan war after an absence of 20 years, Ulysses’ discovers he must face one last challenge – to win back the love of his wife and child.
Ulysses’ Homecoming is an opera of unparalleled honesty and emotional clarity, recounting the delicate interplay between gods and men. With it, Monteverdi has created a masterpiece of extraordinary eloquence - as modern today as it ever was.
James Conway’s new production, designed by Greek designer takis (Ottone, Life on the Moon) will feature Benedict Nelson and Carolyn Dobbin in the central roles, Nick Pritchard as their son Telemachus, and Katie Bray as the feisty goddess Minerva.
Sung in English with surtitles.
