A look back at Saffron Chamber Music Day

27 May 2026

Saffron Chamber Music Day was a town wide success, with performances all over Saffron Walden on Saturday 25 April, 2026.

The day began with two wonderful free performances by the Florens Quartet at Saffron Walden Town Hall. Inspired by the elegance and romance of Bridgerton, the concerts attracted more than 200 people - with a real sense of fun enjoyment throughout.

We then moved to Saffron Hall for our open chamber performances, where more than 20 groups performed across the day. Friends, family and visitors enjoyed an incredibly varied programme, from recorder quintets to oboe ensembles. It was a pleasure to give these talented musicians the chance to share their music and enthusiasm with audiences.

We were also delighted to work with Audley End House and Gardens with an open chamber session in the house’s beautiful hall and library. Visitors enjoyed live music whilst exploring the historic rooms, creating a very special atmosphere across the site.

Later in the afternoon, the renowned Brodsky Quartet returned to Saffron Hall for a stunning concert, taking audiences from the restless energy of Schubert to the extraordinary depth and beauty of Beethoven’s final quartet. In the second half, they were joined by the Florens Quartet for a thrilling octet performance.

The day ended back at Saffron Walden Town Hall with an intimate evening performance by the London Tango Quintet. With audiences seated cabaret-style, the space was transformed by the sultry rhythms and atmosphere of tango, bringing a vibrant and memorable close to a remarkable day of music-making.
