A Beautiful Thread - Thomas Hardy in Words & Music

A Beautiful Thread - Thomas Hardy in Words & Music

Presented by Saffron Hall

Orchestra of the Swan celebrate Thomas Hardy in his own words through the poetry, novels, and music that he loved so much.

Star of stage and screen, Anton Lesser together with Lucia Bonbright, narrate A Beautiful Thread. An afternoon of words and music that weaves Hardy’s life – dramatic as any of his books – with his poetry and great novels, including Tess of the d’Urbervilles, and Jude the Obscure. They perform alongside the acclaimed Orchestra of the Swan, whose music brings Hardy’s world vividly to life – from rural Dorset lanes to the tragic grandeur of his novels. David Le Page has devised a musical programme of shimmering beauty - from the village churches of the 1840s, featuring works by Holst and Purcell.
