Aurora Orchestra & Manu Delago

Aurora Orchestra & Manu Delago

Presented by Saffron Hall

Part of Saffron Sessions

Manu Delago stood outside underneath a telephone pylon with his arms spread wide

Somewhere between ambient electronica and neoclassical music, handpan player Manu Delago’s urgent and original Environ Us is a live newly-orchestrated version of his 2021 audiovisual album, Environ Me.

After years collaborating with Björk, Olafur Arnalds, Cinematic Orchestra and Anoushka Shankar, Delago’s solo compositions blend his trademark acoustic instruments with field recordings of the natural world and electronica. It’s music with an epic sweep – by turns meditative, seductive, urgent and angry, designed to create awareness for our immediate surroundings’. The ever-adventurous Aurora Orchestra complement it with music exploring our relationship with light, the cycles of nature and circadian rhythms, from seventeenth-century England to twenty-first-century Iceland and more music from Delago himself – his radiant, euphoric Newton’s Rainbow for hang and strings.
