Saffron Hall 10th Birthday: Handel's Rodelinda
Saffron Hall 10th Birthday: Handel's RodelindaPresented by Saffron Hall
Part of 10th Birthday Celebrations

We celebrate ten years of unrivalled early vocal music with star British singers countertenor Iestyn Davies and soprano Lucy Crowe, who head a scintillating Anglo-American cast in perhaps Handel’s greatest opera.
The English Concert’s recent recording of the work was rapturously received. “The singing is first-rate, while Harry Bicket has an unerring ear for pacing and instrumental colour” wrote Gramophone. Here much of that starry cast is reunited for a concert performance.
A story of estrangement, deception, and redemption, the opera contains some of the most florid and sensuous music in all Handel opera. The story of Rodelinda, her exiled husband King Betarido and a pair of shamelessly scheming allies’ lust for power – and the vulnerable queen, it fizzes with energy and a barely suppressed fury.
Fresh from a European Tour and en route to New York, this is a dream line-up of artists in one of the high points of baroque opera.
