Saffron Opera Group - Götterdämmerung

Saffron Opera Group - Götterdämmerung

Presented by Saffron Hall

Saffron Opera Group

Saffron Opera Group’s Ring Cycle, deservedly hailed as one of the UK’s most ambitious and successful Wagnerian events of the last decade, now comes to a triumphant conclusion with an eagerly-anticipated Götterdämmerung. The cycle has already attracted superlative notices, in a gathering swell of praise: Das Rheingold ‘was fit to be judged by the highest international standards’ (Wagner News); Die Walküre was ‘incandescent’ (Opera Magazine), and the performance of Siegfried ‘seemed to transcend itself... spellbinding’ (The Guardian).

Mixing established professional singers and exciting stars of tomorrow, the dazzling cast includes internationally-renowned soprano Elaine McKrill as Brünnhilde, and acclaimed baritone Nicholas Folwell in his signature role as Alberich, and Julian Close (Royal Opera, Metropolitan Opera) as Hagen . The superb, rising young Heldentenor Jonathan Stoughton (‘warm sound... enormous reservoir of power’ Warwick Thompson, Classical Source) appears as Siegfried. Under the commanding baton of Wagner specialist Michael Thorne, and with a hand-picked orchestra and chorus, Götterdämmerung promises to bring SOG’s outstanding cycle to a soul-stirring completion. Epic, exhilarating, unmissable.

Running time: Approximately 6 hours including 2 intervals.

Act 1 running time: Approximately 120 minutes followed by a 30 minute interval.
Act 2 running time: Approximately 60 minutes followed by a 60 minute interval.
Act 3 running time: Approximately 90 minutes.
