Saffron Opera Group: Parsifal

Saffron Opera Group: Parsifal

Presented by Saffron Hall

Saffron Opera Group

Following on from Saffron Opera Group’s triumphant and critically acclaimed performance of The Ring Cycle, the company now presents Wagner’s final masterpiece: Parsifal. Telling the story of a foolish youth who must retrieve a magic spear in order to gain wisdom and redeem the power of the Holy Grail, the performance will feature a very strong cast of established professional singers joined by some exciting younger singers making their Wagner debuts. Clarion-voiced heldentenor Michael Bracegirdle (Royal Danish Opera, ENO, ROH, Longborough Festival) takes on the demanding title role, and internationally renowned Wagnerian Elaine McKrill appears as the tormented sorceress Kundry. Three other favourite performers make a welcome return too: Nicholas Folwell (Saffron Opera’s former Alberich) is the villainous magician Klingsor, Andrew Greenan (Wotan, Wanderer and Hans Sachs for SOG) is the wise knight Gurnemanz and Richard Wiegold (Pogner for SOG) takes the role of Titurel. Under the commanding baton of Wagner specialist Michael Thorne, and with a hand-picked orchestra and chorus, Parsifal’s magical quest for wisdom and compassion promises to be a truly exceptional operatic event. Another epic, exhilarating and unmissable evening.
