Mitsuko Uchida

Mitsuko Uchida

Presented by Saffron Hall

Tickets from £20

Price includes a commission of £1.00

‘That’s the moment of truth. All the rest is pretending’ says Mitsuko Uchida, of walking onto the concert platform. ‘That’s why you have to perform. You work differently. You learn different things. You have to risk your life on stage.’

After six decades of performing, she carefully curates her concert-schedule – but never limits her learning or risk-taking.  It’s a thrill to have her back with us at Saffron Hall, presenting composers from her musical heartland. Minor key pieces by Mozart and Haydn and the poetic fragments of Schoenberg miniatures offset Schubert’s penultimate sonata. All of Schubert’s highs and lows seem decanted into this extraordinary piece, thrumming with hope and joyous invention, occasionally shrouded in lonely introspection. In Uchida’s hands it promises to be illuminating, vibrant and profound.
