Elijah
ElijahPresented by Harlow Chorus
Harlow Chorus celebrates its 50th anniversary by performing one of the most dramatic settings of a biblical story ever written.
God’s Chosen People have turned to worshipping false idols and He punishes them with drought and famine. The work opens with a cry for help and passes from despair to confrontations, miracles, redemption, floods, storms, earthquakes, and even a whirlwind as Elijah is carried up to heaven in a fiery chariot. This tumult is tempered by gentler admonitions and angelic interventions including the famous aria ‘O rest in the Lord’, ending in a hymn of praise to the Lord, our Creator.
