Saffron Walden Choral Society: Three Glorias

Presented by Saffron Walden Choral Society

Tickets from £16

Price includes a commission of £1.00

A performance of three uplifting choral masterpieces.

Vivaldi’s 1715 Gloria remains one of the most joyful works in the choral repertoire, celebrated for its vibrant energy and expressive solo writing. Poulenc's 1959 Gloria is a work of great originality and emotional honesty, characteristically French in its wit and ambiguity and expressive of a generous faith. Byrd's Gloria from his 1592 Mass for Four Voices is a ground-breaking work: written when the Catholic Mass was effectively banned in England, the very existence of this music is an act of devotion. Direct and passionate, it is Renaissance polyphony at its most elegant.
