Saffron Walden Choral Society

Saffron Walden Choral Society

Presented by Saffron Walden Choral Society

Mozart’s Requiem, his final composition, is one of the great pieces of the choral repertoire.

Commissioned in mysterious secrecy, Mozart worked feverishly on the score, with premonitions of his own death leading him to greater heights of expressivity. The fiery energy of the music is however pierced with those moments of serene beauty that only Mozart could achieve. Purcell’s Te Deum and Jubilate of 1694 is a glorious representation of heavenly choirs, heralded by trumpets, singing in adoration before God’s throne. Both triumphant and intimate, the music illustrates Purcell’s skills in word painting. Vaughan Willilams' The Lark Ascending completes the programme.
