“We are the music makers and we are the dreamers of dreams”

This evocative programme includes Elgar’s much-loved autobiographical work The Music Makers, which interweaves musical themes from his earlier compositions to create a deeply moving meditation on memory and the enduring power of creativity. John Foulds has been described as a ‘lost genius of British music’; his pioneering 1910 tone poem Mirage evokes a strong sense of mystery and contemplation. Ireland composed his choral anthem Greater Love Hath No Man in 1912, combining biblical texts with warm, lyrical melodies to provide a timeless reflection on sacrifice, love and redemption.
