Britten Sinfonia with ZRI: Re-folking Viennese classics

Britten Sinfonia with ZRI: Re-folking Viennese classics

Presented by Britten Sinfonia

Tickets from £16

Price includes a commission of £1.00

Inspired by a Viennese pub visited by composers for the folk performances it hosted, Britten Sinfonia and ZRI perform classical music re-imagined for orchestra and folk band.

After the toils of daytime, Schubert and Brahms would often visit Vienna’s Red Hedgehog Tavern, Zum Roten Igel to hear breathtakingly emotional and virtuosic folk music. Enjoy an evening of “re-folked” music by composers who adored the traditional songs and instrumental music of central and eastern Europe, with arrangements of chamber works by Haydn, Beethoven, Schubert and Brahms for orchestra and a quintet of clarinet, cello, violin, accordion and hammer dulcimer.
